Atole de Grano (Mexican Fennel Corn Soup)

There’s something about this time of year that reminds me of all those foods that I had growing up. My family is from Michoacán, Mexico. Like any other country there are various regional dishes that probably don’t exists elsewhere and this dish is one that I haven’t found anywhere else. It’s a savory corn soup thickened with masa harina with a hint of sweetness from fresh fennel and star anise.
